interweb inspiration

(Leather dress on Rumi via FashionToast)

I absolutely love reading blogs and that is definitely what inspired me to create my own.  Four blogs I read daily are FashionToast, Cupcakes & Cashmere, Sea of Shoes and The Cherry Blossom Girl.  All are amazingly inspirational and consistently get me excited about fashion.

I think the best part of blogging is that there are no rules, this is especially nice in the fashion arena where in real life there are quite a few rules.  These bloggers wear what makes them happy and that is my number one and only rule for fashion.

under the weather

(Rebel Yell Sweatshirt)

I was feeling a bit sick this weekend and there is nothing that makes me feel better than being in my pajamas, getting cozy and watching Star Wars.  Here are a few items that I would love to have to make me feel better including a comfy sweatshirt, warm ugg boots, and a lot of water from a colorful bottle to add a little brightness.  What makes you feel better when you are feeling under the weather?

rain rain go away

It has been raining for almost a week now in LA and while I love the rain as an excuse to stay home, get cozy and sleep, it is getting to the point where I am unable to be productive.  I am so ready for spring and for the sunny and warm days that we should be having right now.  However, I thought if I had to spend my days in the rain I mind as well be doing it in style.  Here are a few items that would bring some brightness and happiness until the sun comes back out.

painted

I love painting my nails and I really love finding fun new colors and brands.  I am currently using Essie and really like the thin brush and long lasting color.  OPI has a wider brush and I love their vast selection of colors and they are consistently updating with new colors.  I have also recently tried the Deborah Lippmann sparkle nailpolish and I really like using it on top of another color.  Here are the colors that I think are fun for the springtime:

1. Chanel - Black Pearl $25
2. Dior - Gris Montaigne $21
3. Essie - Lady Godiva $8
5. Nars - Orgasm $17
6. Deborah Lippmann - Some Enchanted Evening $18

jump around

Last summer I did a photo shoot with my cousin who is an amazing photographer but I never really got around to posting the pictures on my blog.  I am going to try to post a few now and maybe a few in a couple weeks so I don't bombard it with photos of myself.  That being said I had to post these photos of my Plastic Island Jumpsuit as I think it is still my favorite clothing item I own to this day.

satin sweaters

I have been meaning for a while to post about the Alexander Wang Fall/Winter 2011 collection, so here are my favorite looks from the show.  I absolutely love everything from Alexander Wang and in my mind he can do no wrong.  Every look was so strong and the attention to detail and inventiveness that went into the show blew me away.

Here are my 5 favorite things about the collection:

1. Satin & Sweaters - the combination and fusing of satin and sweaters was done beautifully and I cannot wait to try this in my own outfits.

2. Contoured Sleeves - I love the chunky over-sized ribbed sleeves on each of the sweaters, it just adds a level of volume that is very unique.

3.  Sheer Blouses - The white blouse that is extra long in the back is one of my favorite items I have seen in all fall runway shows, the simplicity and design of it is just perfect.

4.  Accessories - From the leather faux leg warmers to the wrap around the finger purses, each outfit is accessorized perfectly and simply to add and not take away from the over all look.

5. Small Details - Each outfit looks great but when you take a closer look you notice all of the small details that add up to make them unique.  I love the placement of the zippers on the pants and leather jacket, the drawstrings on the satin/sweater poncho, the slits in all the right places on the cut up tops and skirts, it just all adds up to make each look different from the next.

seeing red

I was downtown on Monday for LA Market to look at upcoming Summer and Fall lines and one thing I noticed was an abundance of the color red.  While I usually don't wear red it gave me a bit of inspiration to look for some red items I would love to have in my closet in the coming months.

Love it or hate it, there is something about red lips and nails that makes me feel sassy and confident and for that reason alone I am open to trying it in my accessories and clothing.  You can find the items here:

Foley + Corinna - Mid City Tote $395.00
Topshop - 3/4 Sleeve Lace Dress $96
Urban Outfitters - Sweet Heart Sunglasses $14.00
Irregular Choice - Ahpetal Ring $8.50
ModCloth - A Crinkle in Time Scarf $15.99
Topshop - Crop Crepe Jacket $112
Topshop - Frill Edge Playsuit $42
Aldo - Labrie Heels $69.98

fly away with me

I am currently in the process of buying flights for 3 upcoming trips and the moment I press the purchase button I am already planning my outfits for the plane.  I have always loved planning and traveling and so the combination of the two makes me positively ecstatic.  I make long super detailed lists so not to forget anything and plan every outfit down to the last detail so I do not over-pack (which is a long standing bad habit).

Here are some items that would make up my ideal plane outfit, a cozy cardigan for warmth, a comfortable loose fitting dress, a satchel large enough to hold all my necessities and new sunglasses in hopes that my destination will be filled with fun and sun.  What is your ideal travel outfit?

visitors

(West Elm Bubbles Quilt)

Next week my brother and his friend are visiting me in LA and I cannot wait to eat, drink and be all around merry with them during their stay.  They are both sleeping at my apartment and being one who loves hosting, organizing, decorating and all things involved in having guests I cannot wait for them to arrive.  I am cleaning and preparing for their visit this weekend and I was thinking about what I would love to have to make their stay more comfortable (being comfortable makes for the most relaxing vacations).  I think clean sheets and towels (the Pure Beech sateen sheets and Turkish Towels are my favorites), a great smelling candle (I love this new Green Tea candle I recently received), some freshly baked cookies or pastries (I've been dying to try this homemade Thin Mint recipe) and really soft pillows are some of the keys to being a great host.  I also love these tips from Real Simple for how to prepare for Overnight Guests.  Cheers to visitors!

born this way

Ever since the release of Lady Gaga's latest song I have been obsessed with the thoughts of nude and neutral clothing, accessories and make-up to show a more natural look.  Some find the song cheesy, some find it to be a copy of Madonna, but I really do like the message she is trying to put across and I like the dance beat even better than the message.  Due to my love of clothes and make-up and bags and nail polish I figured what better a way to represent one of my current favorite songs than with the items above.  Here they are from top to bottom:

Jeffrey Campbell - T-strap Platform Heel $129
Alexander Wang - Diego Bucket Bag $825
Topshop - Sheer Bow Blouse $45
T by Alexander Wang - Crewneck Pullover $180
Topshop - Lipstick in Nude $12
Miss Selfridge - Nude Drop Back Skirt $56
Miss Selfridge - Camel High Waisted Trousers $68

the lineup

One of my favorite things about my job is getting to see and learn about new lines and so I am going to start posting "the lineup" which will regularly highlight brands I think are original and noteworthy.  One of my recent favorites is Chaser, the line started in 1988 with basic tees combining a love of art, music and fashion and has continued to be successful by exclusively licensing artwork from some of the most famous bands of all time including Nirvana, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd and many more.  In addition to showcasing cool graphics, their fabric is some of the softest I've ever worn and their shirts and sweatshirts come broken in and so putting it on for the first time feels like you have been wearing them for years.  Overall just a great and affordable line that is consistently delivering the best t-shirts on the market.  You can see more of their styles here and here.
